Public hearing for 2025 capital project scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 4; vote planned for Feb. 11

Waterville Central School District residents can learn more about the $18.6 million capital project proposition with no additional taxpayer increase at an upcoming public hearing. It’s scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 6 p.m. at the Jr./Sr. High School in the Bud Dorr of Education Room.

The 2025 capital project would be financed through a combination of retiring debt along with funds set aside in a capital reserve ($700,000). The district would receive building aid from New York state (89.6% of project expenditures). The project is timed to align with retiring capital project debt. This ensures no additional taxes would need to be levied to support the proposed project.

“A capital project would enhance our educational facilities, enabling the district to stay ahead of evolving demands and proactively adapt to changing needs, ensuring that our students learn in the best possible environment,” said Dr. Jennifer Spring.

The goal of the proposed project is to protect the community’s long-term investment in its schools by addressing necessary internal and external improvements to better support students.

The project would also support continued efforts to strengthen safety at schools. A few priority areas include adding air conditioning, upgrading ventilation and controls at Memorial Park Elementary School and improving the drainage at the Jr./Sr. High School athletic fields.

The public referendum vote is scheduled for Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Waterville Jr./Sr. High School cafeteria. Voters may enter the cafeteria directly through the front loop. Absentee ballots are available from the District Office and are due back by Tuesday, Feb. 11, by 8 p.m. For more information on absentee ballots, call Jennifer Nichols, District Clerk, at (315) 841-3816 or email jnichols@watervillecsd.org
