MPS hosts Veterans Day celebration

Elementary school children sit on a gymnasium floor watching adults ride tricycles between cones with an American flag in the background.

On Nov. 9, Memorial Park Elementary school honored veterans by hosting the MPS Ride and Run for Veterans.

Donations were collected to benefit Clear Path for Veterans and Waterville American Legion Post 0092. Clear Path for Veterans offers support for veterans and their families, addressing the challenges they may encounter.

The gymnasium was transformed into a track for this year’s event. Participants could carry the flag and jog around the track, use a scooter on the track or use a tricycle.

Forty-seven students and 26 adults participated and more than $300 was donated.

Twenty-six veterans from Waterville American Legion Post 0092, Waterville Residential Care Nursing Home, Clear Path for Veterans and the community attended.

There was also a display highlighting 129 veterans on the MPS Wall of Heroes. Students brought in photos of family members and friends who have served.
