MPS dismissing early on June 20, building cooling plan in place due to forecasted heat

Due to forecasted extreme heat, Thursday, June 20 will be an early release day at 11:10 a.m. for all students at Memorial Park Elementary School (MPS).

MPS students were also released Tuesday, June 18, at 11:10 a.m.

School will not be in session on Wednesday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. All MPS staff will report to the Jr./Sr. High School Tuesday afternoon for professional development.

Regents exams will go on as scheduled, since the Jr./Sr. High building is fully air conditioned.

Please check ParentSquare for any updates on field trips and special classroom events.   Individual teachers will keep you informed of any changes. Recess will be held indoors as needed. MPS Fun Day is scheduled to go on as planned this Friday, June 21 with dismissal at 1:30 p.m.

To keep MPS as cool as possible, there are air movers in the hallways, box fans in classrooms, shades are being kept down and classroom doors are open. Cold bottled water is available for students and staff.

Students and staff are reminded to dress accordingly for the warm weather and are welcome to  bring water to stay hydrated.

As weather continues to become more unpredictable and extreme, the need for air conditioning becomes more critical. The district is in the process of planning for a future capital project at MPS, with a referendum planned for December, to accommodate this need.
