Waterville Board of Education appoints new Jr./Sr. High School principal and assistant principal 


At its Feb. 4 meeting, the Waterville Board of Education approved the appointment of Andre Paradis as Jr./Sr. High School principal and Kirt Broedel as assistant principal.

“We are excited to welcome Mr. Paradis and Mr. Broedel as the new leaders of the Jr./Sr. High School,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Spring. “Their extensive experience, commitment to student success, and strong leadership will be instrumental in cultivating a supportive, dynamic and enriching learning environment for our students, staff, and families.”

With a strong background in educational leadership and a deep dedication to student success, Paradis brings a wealth of experience to the Waterville Central School District. Paradis has dedicated 29 years to education, serving in various leadership roles, including principal of Proctor High School in Utica, and principal at Perry Junior High School in New Hartford. He served at New Hartford for 25 years. While there, he also served as the teacher association’s union president and the department chair for science along with teaching AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science and other science courses. Paradis is also a New York State Master Teacher and a Nationally Board Teacher. 

“I feel that Mr. Paradis portrays the qualities, knowledge, and experience for me to not only work collaboratively with, but to learn from,” said Kathy Zangrilli, Memorial Park Elementary School (MPS) principal.

Paradis earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in zoology and genetics at North Carolina State University and completed his Master of Science Degree in education at Syracuse University.  He also earned his Master’s Degree in educational leadership from Touro College.

“I am honored to join the Waterville community. I look forward to working alongside the district’s dedicated educators, students and families to create an exceptional educational experience for all,” Paradis said.

Paradis raised his family of six children in Vernon with the youngest one graduating this year. 

A proud Waterville alumnus, Kirt Broedel will be joining Paradis as assistant principal. Broedel brings 15 years as an experienced educator and administrator with a passion for student achievement. 

He served at Proctor High School in Utica as assistant principal. He  taught English Language Arts, Academic Intervention Services, Reading, Public Speaking, Regents Prep and Literature in Film at Vernon Verona Sherrill High School. 

Broedel studied at St. Lawrence University and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in education and completed his Master of Science Degree in special education at Utica College. He also received a Certificate of School Leadership and Supervision from Canisius College.

He resides in Deansboro where he enjoys spending time with his family. 

“I am excited to return to my roots and serve the community where I was raised and currently reside,” said Broedel. “I am honored to step into this role and look forward to working with our talented educators and engaged community to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.”
