The Waterville school community is coming together to support a teacher who is fighting cancer.
Meral Dahlin has served as a sixth grade and special education teacher at Memorial Park Elementary School (MPS).
Dahlin has been diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma. The color yellow is often used to promote awareness of sarcoma and support for those fighting it.
At Waterville sporting events during the fall season, MPS teachers and coaches will be hosting a 50/50 raffle with half the proceeds going to Dahlin’s family for medical care and other related costs.
At the following athletic events, there will also be a donation jar if people wish to donate directly.
- Sept. 25 – Cross Country meet – donations
- Sept. 27 – Football Game /Homecoming- 50/50 raffle
- Oct. 2 – Girls Soccer Pink Night – donations
- Oct. 3 – Boys Soccer Pink Night – donations
- Oct 4 – Football Pink night – donations
Additionally, on Oct. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at the Waterville Jr./Sr. High School stadium, there is a Powder Puff flag football game scheduled for girls grades 9-12, organized by Erin Glazier, the Waterville head cheerleading coach. The game will include teams coached by two varsity football team coaches. Boys will be cheerleaders for the game and will be coached by two Waterville varsity cheerleaders. Any donation will be accepted for entrance. Proceeds will be donated to two causes: Dahlin’s fight against soft tissue sarcoma and since it is a previously scheduled awareness event, breast cancer research.
On Oct, 7 and Oct. 10, the Clinton field hockey team will be playing for Dahlin, who is a resident and Clinton graduate.
